Bill's first vehicle was a 1961 Ford F100 with a 292 V8 that needed to be moved from an alley or else the city was going to fine Bill's dad $50. So he told Bill "it's yours, but you gotta get it running". Bill quickly learned how to work on the truck and then started making modifications to it. Soon, he was drag racing it in the NHRA "Gasser" series and did quite well. Bill then realized that be loved working on engines, not cars!
In 1969, he opened Bill's Speed Shop in downtown Raleigh and quickly became the Ford FE specialist in the area, building 427, 428 and Cammer engines. He eventually became the premier Ford performance engine builder working on any Ford engine out of Detroit while finishing up his service in the US Army. As they say, the rest is history!
Over the years, he acquired machines and the business grew. In 1988, he took the business full-time and relocated to Fuquay-Varina. Bill is an ASE-certified Master Engine Machinist, Parts Specialist, and went to NCSU for two years. When not at work, he spends most of his time the FV Twins Summer Collegiate Baseball Team.
